Locations & Times

Classes will be held in the small gymnasium of the Mackenzie Community School. However, due to COVID-19 the details of class format remains subject to change.

At this time there are no COVID-19 protocols affecting in-person classes.

However, in-person classes will follow protocols in alignment with the Government of Ontario, Renfrew County and District Health Unit, Renfrew County District School Board and our governing sport organizations. In the event that in-person classes cannot be held, we will switch to Zoom-based classes. Zoom classes and in-person classes may follow different formats as a result of the COVID-19 protocols.

In-Person Classes

Mondays & Thursdays
6:30-7:30 PM, ages 7-13 as of 2023 Dec. 31
7:30-9:30 PM, age 14 and up, and blue belt and up regardless of age
9:30-10:00 PM, black belt and shodan-ho continue

Participants are expected to arrive before their scheduled time. We aim to transition as quckly as possible between the classes, so it is important that students respect the planned times.

Participants are encouraged to arrive at the premises in their uniforms, change rooms might not be available. Any symptomatic participant is directed to remain home and could be turned away by one of the senseis. Parents and guardians shall pause long enough (10 min. after scheduled start) to ensure their child has not been denied entry and returned outside.

Students are expected to practice proper hand hygiene and are advised to bring their own water.

All of the Deep River Karate Club senseis are confirmed to be fully vaccinated.

Zoom Classes

Mondays & Thursdays when in-person classes are not allowed or held.
All students start at 6:30 PM,
junior ranks (white, yellow & orange) finish at 8:00 PM,
intermediate ranks (green, blue & brown) finish at 8:45 PM and
advanced ranks (shodan-ho & black belt) finish at 9:30 PM.

Zoom classes will make use of Breakout Rooms for focused teaching and one-with-few interactions with a sensei. To make the most of the Zoom classes students must be self-disciplined, continue to make the same effort expected in the dojo. To the extent possible, arrange the home video environment to allow a full view of the student and ideally offers area approximately 3 m wide and 3.5 m long. Larger is of course even better. In cases where there is more than one student in the household and they are different belts, separate video links is desirable, particularly for the breakout portions.

General Information

Students shall be 7 years of age or older as of 2023 December 31. The first term is from September to January and second term from February to May or June.

Students should not arrive more than 10 minutes before an in-person class as there is no instructor in the dojo to supervise. Parents should ensure that the student did not return outside before driving away, especially in cold weather.
